In July 2025, N. Annorbah (Pronature Alliance Ghana) and B. Krön (Parrot Forest Association) visited the parrot village in the Cape Three Points area, where the last known potentially vialble group of grey parrots in Ghana lives. They could confirm that there is still a group of parrots, even though illegal poaching is ongoing. Following our conservation engagement, the local chief and elders have pledged to ban hunting and the felling of large trees used by the parrots. In exchange we offer support for the village.
The objectives of our rescue mission are to implement measures that
1. prevent the illegal wild capture of African grey parrots in the Cape Three Points area (Ahanta West district) of Ghana,
2. ensure that grey parrots find nesting and food plants in the area, and
3. educate the population about the ecological importance of parrots and about ways of using the presence of the birds to generate income through eco-tourism and local production.
A corps of community-based parrot guardians will be trained to monitor and report attempted poaching and illegal logging. Further benefits for the village will include a new borehole, because the present drinking water is polluted by galamsey, support for the selling of local products and as a long-term goal, to bring parrot-enthusiasts to village, first for conservation measures, later es eco-tourists.
