Ghana has perfect conditions for a positive development of the tourism sector.
• Natural resources: Beaches, rain forest paradises, safari in the savannah.
• Cultural heritage: tribal traditions, folk festivals, nightlife in the capital, culinary delights, museums, old mosques, churches and castles.
• English as national language.
• A high level of public safety.
• Ghana is a democracy with freedom of speech.
• More and more people in West Africa are looking for holiday destinations without climate-damaging air traffic.
Challenges include widespread corruption and illegal gold mining (galamsey), which destroys forests and has heavily polluted 60% of the country's water bodies with mercury, arsenic and other heavy metals. Apart from the capital Accra, the Volta Region is the last region in Ghana that has not yet been affected. Traditional leaders and NGOs are fighting to prevent galamsey from gaining a foothold in the Volta Region. We support these efforts and hope that by creating jobs in eco-tourism, we can demonstrate the economic benefits that an intact environment can bring to the people.
